OVERVIEW
More than 90% of adults will experience back pain in their life. As a result, SpineMark's customer base is
global. Spine Centers throughout the world share common characteristics. These include medical practices,
diagnostics and treatments, equipment resources (or lack thereof) and patient demographics. SpineMark
has both domestic and foreign spine center affiliates. Affiliates in foreign countries may typically generate
higher revenues as a result of the growth of medical tourism private-pay patients and favorable cost policies
of local companies and insurance companies. Although many hospitals are staffed with highly competent
physicians and perform hundreds of complex spine surgeries annually, few operate anywhere close to their
profit potential. The reasons are simple; practicing the art of medicine and practicing the business of
medicine are not identical. Additionally, in an industry that is changing rapidly on all fronts, it is usually
beyond a hospital's scope of administration to manage every department with a maximum level of expertise
in billing, contract negotiations, research, marketing and technical oversight. SpineMark is an expert resource
in creating Centers of Excellence where medical professionals, hospitals and industry manufacturers partner
together to provide a highly profitable, turnkey system for the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders.
SpineMark understands the complexities of spine care and how to optimize hospital and physician resources.
Creating a Center of Excellence ("COE") for Spine within a hospital has little to do with building a physical
entity and everything to do with creating a highly skilled team of medical professionals that integrate both
non-operative care, diagnostics and surgery in managing the treatment needs of patients. Strategies include
implementing algorithms for specific conditions based on methods already established by specialty societies,
medical research and publications on best practices. The COE team might consist of existing hospital staff,
or recruitment of physician or allied health professionals. However, building that team requires planning,
training, managing and optimizing procedures so everything performs at the highest level of excellence in
terms of patient care and profitability.
